Aloha Dive Continuing Education Courses - Specialty | Course Description
| Boat |
Space is always limited on a dive boat, and sometimes there are many divers and lots of equipment. You will learn packing techniques for maximum efficiency, when and how to get dressed on boats, marking your equipment, stowing your equipment plus boat etiquette and courtesy. |
| Deep |
A deep diving course improves your buoyancy control, breathing rate and mental awareness of depth, direction, environment and remaining air. During this course you will learn how to plan and execute a deep dive by using the diving industry’s established safety limits as based on Doppler ultrasound research. |
| Dry Suit |
Dry suits provide divers with the ability to dive in cold water. Cold water diving offers a glimpse at a variety of marine animals and bottom growth not found in tropical waters. In the winter months, colder water offers better visibility than the warmer water of summer. This class shows you different styles of dry suits available and teaches buoyancy control when diving with your new dry suit. |
| Equipment Techniques |
Equipment Techniques establishes a great foundation of knowledge about SCUBA equipment because quality equipment makes a difference in performance and fun. In this class you will learn about selection, adjustment, care & maintenance, field repairs, transportation and storage so that you will get the most out of your equipment. |
| Enriched Air Nitrox |
For comfortable and enjoyable Enriched Air Nitrox diving, you will learn about the following: air analyzers, Nitrox SCUBA tanks, Nitrox regulators and alternate air sources, Nitrox dive computers and Nitrox dive tables. |
| Marine Injury |
In the course of diving and related activities around the aquatic environment, there are some difficulties that might result in injuries that require attention. This course will show you the most acceptable treatment/first aid for marine injuries caused by the aquatic environment and marine life until proper medical assistance arrives. You will also receive a summary of the types of animals that are potentially harmful, and the accepted medical first aid/ treatment for injuries caused by these animals. |
| Navigation |
SCUBA divers can master their underwater environment by applying many of the same navigational techniques used by pilots, seamen and explorers. Learning to navigate using a compass and/or maintaining awareness of your natural surroundings, will give you a new sense of confidence and an increased sense of independence. This will, in turn, alleviate stress from your dive. |
| Night/Limited Visibility |
Limited visibility takes place at night and during the day. Diving at night is considered limited visibility because your vision is confined to the illumination capabilities of your light. During the day, visibility can be restricted because of turbid water. In this class you will learn techniques that will work for either night or limited visibility diving. You will also learn about primary, secondary, strobe and surface lights used in night diving. |
| Photography |
Capture and share your diving adventures through underwater photography. Our instructors are first class underwater photographers. They will share their wealth of knowledge and expertise and teach you what equipment to use to get the right shot! |
React Right CPR/First Aid (w/Stress & Rescue) |
Completing the React Right Adult First Aid and CPR Program places you in the center of the “Cycle of Life” – the system that saves lives. Upon completion of this course you will know how to recognize emergency situations plus how to respond appropriately until emergency medical personnel take over. (Note – This course is not a specialty course per se, but an addition to the Stress & Rescue specialty course should you need a CPR/First Aid certification.) |
| Search & Recovery |
Divers are often asked to search for and recover items lost in the water. This class will teach you how to assess the situation and recognize limitations of self and equipment. You will also learn search patterns, locating and marking, proper lift procedures and understanding the use of specialized equipment. |
| Stress & Rescue |
Stress is the result of pressures or demands which outweigh a person’s ability or capacity to respond to them. In this class you will learn how to prevent accidents by detecting and responding to stress (either in yourself or another person) at its earliest point of development. Since 100% avoidance is impossible, you will also learn rescue skills and how to regain control in an emergency situation. |
| Wreck |
This course is designed to help you gain an understanding of how to judge wreck sites for skill level and equipment required to make a successful dive. We will discuss specialized equipment, research methods, penetration and much more. You will learn that wreck diving is performed on many different experience levels and that each dive is a learning experience for future trips. |
