| "Let's Talk Scuba"
One of the questions that comes up when you talk about scuba diving is "What's the difference between SSI, (Scuba Schools International) PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors)?
All three of these training agencies belong to the RSTC (Recreational Scuba Training Council), the governing body of the scuba industry. The RSTC sets minimum standards for open water scuba diving training which these agencies follow, then the agencies may add additional standards as they see fit.
One of the major differences between SSI, PADI AND NAUI is that NAUI and PADI Instructors work independently, so who is there "Watch Dog", sure if an student feels the instructor did not do a professional job, what to they do, oh wait I know, call a customer service rep. at PADI or NAUI, then what?
All SSI instructors MUST teach through a SSI Dealer (Store). Each and every SSI Dealer MUST have a monitor, (usually it's the owner or manager) for all instructors. If any instructor within the SSI Dealer is unprofessional, then the customer can go the monitor...so I ask you Who has a better system? It is the opinion of this store, who has better instruction team, a person who works independently or an instructor who is monitored, you answer the question?
Another major difference between PADI and SSI is continuing education. Within the PADI system, after a person completes
there open water certification, (Which includes only 4 open water scuba dives), PADI offers an "Advance Open Water Class".
Here is the "Advance" class. One student manuel with 5 chapters, then the student completes 5 additional scuba dives, (there are 2 required dives, which are deep (any depth between 61ft and 100ft) and one navigation dive), the other three dives are the choice of the student. So.. let's get this straight. A student has a total of 9 dives and they are an "Advanced Diver"... "yeah right".
SSI has a much better program, in my opinion. In order to obtain an Advance Open Water Diver certification from SSI, a student must complete 24 logged dives.(5 dives have been completed with your open water certification), and 4 Specialty Courses (i.e. Night, Deep, Wreck, Stress/Rescue, Search/Recovery, Nitrox, Boat, Photography, Equipment) just to name a few. Some courses (i.e. Deed, Wreck, Night, Nitrox etc) require completion of classroom work and two dives....so I ask you
who has more experience and is, in my opinion, more of an advance diver.... do the math!!
Aloha Dive is the only SSI Platinum Training Stores in the San Fernando Valley. Chris Russello, who has 35 years of diving experience holds SSI highest Instructor Certification Rating.. he is a Master Instructor/Instructor Certifier. Chris and his team of professionals have the experience to train you from your first open water experience all the way to instructor certification.
Get in your car...pick of the phone.... Don't wait to the rush.. sign up today to start your open water adventure.. all ready certified.. even through another agency, that's ok.. Aloha Dive an teach you specialty courses..
